Hearts Across Romania was founded in 2003 by Mariana Achiriloaie, Geanie Burns, and Susan Flanagan—three friends brought together by their desire to help orphaned Romanian children.
Our Mission: Hearts Across Romania is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Romania’s children and the communities where they live.
We are operated by an all-volunteer staff. Hearts Across Romania works closely with Romanian organizations like Catharsis Association of Brasov and Un Pas Spre Viitor (A Step Towards the Future) who are located in Brasov, Romania.
We have achieved so much to help Romania's children:
In-kind medical donations valued at over $217,000 have been shipped and distributed to Brasov area hospitals.
$36,000 of new medical equipment purchased and donated to children’s hospitals in the Brasov area.
Sponsored eye operations for Romanian children. Donated new and used eye- glasses to children and adults in the Brasov community.
Provided over 3200 pairs of new shoes to children and needy families.
Provide ongoing sponsorship of the A Step to the Future (USPV) Transitional Program—donations to program total over $33,000.
Over $1,200 of new personal hygiene items (including toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, hair spray, shaving cream, razors, lipstick, nail polish, soap, etc.) donated in 2014.
Hearts Across Romania is registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and is a member of Texas Association of Nonprofit Organizations (TANO).

Once children in orphanages reach the age of 18—if they are no longer in school—they must leave the institutions for life on their own. Hearts Across Romania has always had concerns about these children, many of whom are not prepared for independent living and lack the resources or skills to make it in the real world. Read more.
